Integration: JetBrains AI Assistant

This guide uses the Coder 0.6.32 API configuration, checked against release source on October 13, 2026. JetBrains AI Assistant must support HTTP MCP and reach the Coder process. Host features, permissions and tool invocation behavior vary by version. This page is not a claim that every prompt or inline completion is captured.

  1. Install and activate Coder, then register a project.
  2. Run memstrata-coder status and memstrata-coder doctor. The API/MCP service is on port 8000 by default; the provider harness on port 8080 is a different service.
  3. If Setup has not already started the API, run memstrata-coder api --port 8000. Do not start duplicate services.

Add the local HTTP MCP server in the MCP settings of an AI Assistant version supporting that transport. Use http://127.0.0.1:8000/mcp/. The exact settings location and tool invocation UI depend on the IDE and plugin version; this guide does not require a made-up @memstrata command.

After connecting, discover the server’s tools. Call list_code_projects, then get_code_context with an actual returned project ID and a repository question. Inspect the returned source_paths, context, and status. An empty pack or not_indexed is not a complete view of the repository.

Coder can record a context-delivery receipt for an actual tool call. That does not prove the model used the context, that every host request was routed, or that money was saved. Provider routing is separate and explicit; consult the API reference.

A browser-extension marketplace listing is not verified on this site. Do not install a similarly named third-party extension as a substitute for this MCP connection. See browser-extension status.

  • Check API/MCP reachability on port 8000, not only harness health on port 8080.
  • Use the host’s connection log and tool list; a green icon alone is not an end-to-end test.
  • If a project is required, select one returned by list_code_projects; if indexing is incomplete, wait for it to finish.
  • In a remote IDE or container, loopback refers to that environment, not necessarily the desktop. Do not expose Coder publicly or disable TLS verification to bypass a connection problem.
  • Preserve user settings, credentials and indexes. Share only sanitized diagnostics with support.
